Martin Day Electricians has wired, tested and certified homes across Leeds for more than 30 years. It is an NICEIC Approved Contractor with no call-out charge, and FreeIndex ranks it 3rd out of 840 electricians in the UK. Most of its work comes from people who have been told to call Martin by someone who already has.
The old WordPress site had done a reasonable job for years. It ranked well for the main Leeds searches, but it was slow on a phone, it claimed a service area much wider than its pages covered, and many of the service pages were short and written in trade shorthand rather than the words homeowners search for.
Built for the person holding the phone
We started with the reader in the worst position: a homeowner with a problem, on a phone, who does not know what is normal to pay or who to trust. Everything on the homepage serves that person first. Martin’s own photo, his accreditations, no call-out charge and the office number in a button big enough to hit with a thumb. A call and free quote bar stays at the bottom of the screen on every page.
Martin was clear that the type had to be generous and the site had to feel friendly rather than clinical. The yellow and navy come straight from his existing logo, and the headings are big enough to read without zooming.
A site the size of the area he actually covers
Martin works all over Leeds, so the site now does too. There are 52 area pages, each with something specific to say about the homes there, from student lets in Headingley to Victorian terraces in Chapel Allerton. The 19 service pages cover everything from full house rewires and consumer unit upgrades to EICR certificates, landlord safety checks and EV charger installation. Each one explains what the job involves, what affects the price and what the regulations require, in plain English.
With that many pages, navigation had to be planned rather than bolted on. A mega menu groups services by type, the area menu lists every neighbourhood, and every service page links across to related work and the areas where it is most often booked. Larger commercial jobs hand off to Martin’s sister site, so the two never compete for the same searches.
A migration that keeps what already works
The old site already ranked 3rd for electrician Leeds and 1st for electrician in Leeds. The rebuild was planned so it would not lose either. Before launch we mapped every old URL, including the underscore-style addresses WordPress had created years ago, to its new page: 144 redirect rules in all. The domain, the phone number and the Google Business Profile details stay exactly as Google already knows them.
Fast, and readable by AI search as well as Google
The site is built on Astro and served from Cloudflare as static pages. It scores 100 for Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices and SEO in Lighthouse. Every page carries structured data describing the business, its services and the areas it covers. A short FAQ section answers the questions people actually ask, such as how much a rewire costs or how often a landlord needs an EICR, in a form that ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews can quote directly. Analytics only run once a visitor has agreed to them.
What it adds up to
A good local tradesperson does not need a clever website. They need one that says who they are, proves they are qualified, covers the places they work and gets out of the way so the phone can ring. Martin Day Electricians now has that, on a site that loads before the kettle boils.
